Training Fingerprinting Service

We are so thankful for our volunteers.

Our school runs on the time our families give. Before you can serve with students, the Diocese of Oakland asks every volunteer to complete the VIRTUS 'Protecting God's Children for Adults' online training and be fingerprinted. Here's exactly how to do both.

Two requirements, four steps

Training first,
then fingerprinting.

  1. 01

    Complete the training

Every volunteer must create a VIRTUS account at Virtus.org and complete the safe environment with mandated reporter training through VIRTUS Online. Register an account, select Organization - Oakland, CA (Diocese), and work through the course. Under SB 848 this training must now be renewed annually. Email your completion certificate to Mrs. Castaing at ecastaing@csdo.org.

  2. 02

    Print the Live Scan form

Download and print the Request for Live Scan Service form below. Bring the printed form with you - the vendor cannot process you without it. Write "Our Lady of Grace School" on the form when asked for the school name.

  3. 03

    Get fingerprinted

Visit any approved Diocese of Oakland vendor below with your printed form and a photo ID. Identify yourself as a member of the Diocese so you are not charged a rolling fee.

  4. 04

    You're cleared to serve

Once your training and clearance are on file with the school office, you can sign up for classroom help, field trips, athletics, events, and everything in between.

New for 2026 - 2027

California SB 848,
the Safe Learning Environments Act.

Enacted in 2025, SB 848 establishes additional requirements for all school employees and volunteers designed to prevent and respond to misconduct and child abuse. Diocese of Oakland schools are strengthening existing Safe Environment policies accordingly. In order to volunteer with children, adults must complete all of the following:

  • 01Create a VIRTUS account at Virtus.org
  • 02Live Scan fingerprint clearance recorded in VIRTUS prior to volunteering with children
  • 03Complete the annual safe environment with mandated reporter training in VIRTUS
  • 04Negative TB test or TB risk assessment questionnaire

Our principal and Safe Environment coordinator are responsible for ensuring all components of the Diocesan Safe Environment and SB 848 requirements are met before volunteers work with students. From a letter by Dr. Andrew T. Currier, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Oakland.
