New Mass policy, effective immediately

August 27, 2025

Dear Families and Friends of Our Lady of Grace Catholic School,

In light of the recent and tragic shooting that occurred at a Catholic school during Mass in Minneapolis, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the weight of this news and the concern it may bring. The safety of our students, staff, and parish community remains our highest priority.

As a precautionary measure, beginning immediately, the church doors will be closed and locked during all school Masses. This step is being taken to ensure a secure environment while our students and staff are gathered in worship.

Since attending Mass is one of the privileges available to all who work at a Catholic school, beginning immediately, the office will be closed from 8:10 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. to give Mrs. Castaing the opportunity to attend Mass should she wish to do so.  If you know in advance that your child will be tardy, please speak to your child’s teacher, Mrs. Castaing or Dr. McGowan, to make special arrangements for their arrival.

Since students must always be supervised by an adult, your scholar must be in line with his or her faith family by 8:10 a.m. Otherwise, please wait with them until Mass concludes sometime between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m.

We recognize that changes to our routines can feel unsettling, but please know these decisions are made with care and with the well-being of our community in mind.

We continue to pray for peace, healing, and safety for all schools and parishes. Thank you for your trust, understanding, and continued partnership in keeping our community safe.

With faith and care,

Fr. Raphael Zwolenkiewicz, OFM Conv, Pastor, and Gena McGowan, Principal
